A Message from Our Founder:

Gilligan Carpentry LLC was started in 2002, during the recession of the early 2000’s, with $600 worth of credit at Home Depot, some basic tools, and a desire to have the schedule flexibility that I needed to complete my college degree. I had worked previously in the construction industry for Toll Brothers and for a Toll Brothers subcontractor. I found that I liked the challenge of building things and solving construction problems. My friend Thomas Hall and I started Gilligan Carpentry as a handyman/light carpentry and pressure washing business.

Tom and I worked hard during those initial years, and our attention to detail and quality craftsmanship resulted in business growth from repeat customers and word-of-mouth. As the business picked up I added more services and I obtained a Class A Virginia contractor license. About the time that I was graduating from Marymount University, we started to take on even larger projects. At this point the market was booming, and business was humming. I resisted the temptation to add crews and made the decision to focus on building a core group of team members that I could count on. I picked a handful of skilled carpenters and tradesmen to work with me. This also allowed us to stay lean and deliver quality craftsmanship on time and on budget.

In 2011, I changed the name from Gilligan Carpentry to the broader Gilligan Contracting, to reflect that we were no longer just a handyman/light carpentry firm. At this point, much of our business was kitchen and bathroom remodeling as well as complex custom built-ins. These three areas of focus and expertise remain our principle business. As our reputation grew stronger and the demand for our services expanded, we entered the Washington D.C. market, and I obtained a contracting license in Washington DC. Despite our larger footprint, our core team has pretty much remained the same throughout the years.

Today, we are a full-service kitchen and bathroom remodeling firm that also specializes in custom carpentry projects. We are ready to tackle your simplest handyman repair needs or your largest remodeling project. We have designers and vendors that we can stand behind and that can help make your dream project a reality.
